Admissions

Visiting the Lower School

Globe Academy invites prospective pupils and parents who are interested in applying to the Lower School for entry to Nursery and Reception in September 2010 to arrange a personal appointment with the Headteacher of the Lower School, Sandra White. This will give parents the opportunity to ask questions and meet staff on a more personal level.

Nursery admissions

Our nursery offers a daily morning or afternoon session and has (full-time) places for 25 children

Reception admissions

We offer places for 60 children in two intakes, September and January.
“Winter-born” children, who reach five years old between September and February, will start in September. “Summer-born” children, with a birthday between March and August, join our reception class in January.

How to apply to Globe Academy

Applications to Globe Academy must be made through the Southwark Council common application form (CAF). There is no supplementary form

If you have questions about primary admissions or about the school please call Zohra Bounouar on 020 7525 9116.

The deadline for primary applications for 2010/11 is 29th January 2010.

Admissions criteria

Globe Academy is a non-denominational, non-selective school for local children. If the academy is oversubscribed, priority will be given to students with statements of special educational needs. The remaining places will then be offered in the following order of priority:

  • children who are in public care
  • children who have a sibling who already attends the school and who will continue to do so on the date of admission (for this purpose “sibling” means a whole, half or step-brother or -sister resident at the same address)
  • children who live closest to the school, using a straight line distance from the main entrance of the academy to the main entrance to the child’s home.
  • The academy will keep a waiting list to fill casual vacancies occurring if students leave during the year or withdraw from a place that has been offered.

Appeals

Parents/carers who are not offered a place for their child may appeal to an independent committee under the provisions of the School Standards and Framework Act, 1998. Parents/carers wishing to appeal should contact the Southwark admissions team who will be able to advise them on the process.

Please see Admissions consultation page to see and comment on proposals to temporarily reduce the admissions number from year 2009/10.
